Here in the US, hash can be a food item that is made of beef brisket that has been "corned" (whatever that is). Then it is chopped up and you add cigar ashes, mouse droppings and other assorted delectables to make a dish that you usually would eat for breakfast but I just use it to patch holes in the wall.

Bottom line, it's a nasty breakfast treat here in Yankee land.
